What Will I Learn During my Business Degree?

The curriculum for online business degree programs will differ from institution to institution, as does the type of degree offered, i.e., a BBA or a BSBA, or BS in Business Management. Additionally, there is usually a minimum of 120 hours of required courses, over half of which will be professional, i.e., core requirements within each program. These core requirements tend to be somewhat similar across the degrees. Students in most bachelor business degree programs will be required to complete courses in the following general areas: foundations of business, marketing principles, accounting, macroeconomics, microeconomics, business law, marketing, business, and operational management. Many schools that offer degrees in business also require students to choose a specific business scope to complement their business degree. Additionally, BABA and BBA have more general education courses required than a BS in Business, which tend to have a more analytically focused curriculum.

Most of the degrees in business follow suit with general higher education program standards. A high school diploma, or GED equivalent, is a prerequisite for a degree in business. Additionally, many institutions require SAT or ACT scores. However, that isn’t always the case with online programs. Many of the undergraduate business degree programs are offered through the business school at a university. As such, some schools require that finance students meet additional academic requirements before pursuing a degree in finance. ACT/SAT categorial scores, high school grade point average, and high school class rank may all play a role in freshman admissions to a finance degree program. Additionally, current students of an institution who transfer into a business program within their institution can sometimes be required to complete a certain number of credit hours, outside of those required for a business degree, and maintain B level GPA before they are considered for a transfer into the business track. Again, these requirements are not standardized and depend greatly upon the school to which a student applies.

How Long does it take to get a Business Degree?

The average full-time degree takes about 4 years, with some schools offering accelerated courses completed in 3. It depends upon the school and the specific program.

Should I get my Business Degree Online?

Whether you should choose to pursue online education is dependent upon a lot of factors. It’s a great option for people who currently have a job, have extra time to study, and need to pay for their education as they go rather than study full time. Additionally, most state and some private, even very competitive, universities offer equivalent online programs to their campus programs. Education is changing as fast as technology permits.

What Does it Mean to Have an Accredited Online Business Degree?

Schools that are accredited have met regulating standards that provide the students with an assurance that they are receiving a certain level of education. Each accrediting body can have different standards and regulations. However, as a consumer or a prospective employer of a graduate, you would roughly know the level of education received by the type of accreditation or lack thereof. Three accreditors of business education are AACSB, ACBSP, and IACBE.
